The Tidewater Hokies are passionate about giving back to our local community and bringing the spirit of Ut Prosim to the Tidewater Region. Our chapter holds two marquee service events throughout the Chapter year as well as smaller one-time opportunities.
For the past 15 years, the Tidewater Hokies have volunteered with the Salvation Army and U.S. Marine Corp’s “Toys for Tots” program. We have helped unload donations, sort stocking, pack Angel Tree gifts, and help families shop for bikes and toys. This is our chapter’s favorite annual tradition and we hope you will consider joining us this year. For 2026, we are looking forward to a Holiday Party with a food donation drive!
The Big Event at Virginia Tech has always been a core tradition of the university ever since its founding in 2002. Each year, Virginia Tech students, faculty, and staff gather and complete over 1,200 service projects in the New River Valley. The Tidewater Hokies partner with the Big Event at Virginia Tech each year to extend the programs impact to the Tidewater region. In past years, our chapter has volunteered with Equi-Kids, with beach cleanups through the Surf Rider Foundation and Bold Mariner, and most recently creek cleanups through the Virginia Aquarium.
